L/Sgt. Richard "Dick" Mason

L/Sgt. Richard “Dick” Mason, formerly of East Lancashire Regiment, served as a Corporal with No.6 Commando in North Africa where he was wounded by two bullets; one going through his face from cheek-to-cheek, smashing out several teeth and the second penetrating his ankle. On returning to the Commando from a period of recuperation in the UK, he served as a clerk with Commando HQ until he was pronounced fit for active duties and rejoined No.3 Troop of No.6 Commando as a Lance-Sergeant from at least June 1944 .

In regard to his battle injuries, L/Sgt. Mason was allowed to wear irregular low boots and no gaiters.
